October 2019

Hello Parent/Guardians,

Please check the St. Michael School Web Site for up to date information on our school year.

I am your child's Language and Math teacher for the 2019/2020 school year.  Septemeber was a busy  month practicing and reviewing Language and Math skills.  I will be using this blog at the beginning of every month to give you an update on your child's activities in Language and Math for the upcoming month.

Math

We have spent the last few weeks reviewing our addition and subtraction strategies for one and two digit numbers. We have spent some time working on skip counting forwards and backwards for our number sense strand. The students are working really hard in these areas. We have also extended our learning using the classroom learning carpet, zorbits(online math game) and individual and guided practice.  As we begin October, we will be completeing skip counting, and beginning to reperesent, estiamte and compare whole numbers.

Language

During September, we have been focusing on our daily silent reading program.  Be sure to ask your child how many leveled books they have read so far!  Each child receives a reading bag with their leveled book and are asked to read that book at the beginning of their Language Block.  Students change their leveled book upon successful completion of their required reading.  We have also been learning about and reviewing nouns and adjectives. Students have also been practicing their spacing and directionality of letters when they are writing their sentences.  During the month of October, students will focus on retelling stories through their writing and continue with their leveled reading.

Stay tuned for the November update for Grade 3 Language and Math.   Please follow me on twitter @TraciNehmeOCSB for daily highlights.

God Bless,
